On Wednesday, January 15, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia approved a permanent injunction, officially ending the 12-year settlement agreement between Virginia and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
This new order sets clear guidelines for Virginia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) to improve services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It also outlines responsibilities for all parties, ensures independent monitoring of progress, and includes steps for resolving disputes.
